Centenary of professor Yasargil’s Birth: an historic event in neurosurgery celebrated in Zurich

Last July, the University Hospital of Zurich celebrated the centenary of the birth of one of the most renowned neurosurgeons of all time, Professor Yasargil.

Although Professor Yasargil passed away 10 days before the event, his legacy was honored by 200 neurosurgeons from around the world who gathered to celebrate his life and work. During the event, a joint meeting of the World Academy of Neurosurgery took place, in which Dr. Arráez, Vice President of the Academy, actively participated by delivering a lecture on surgically challenging brain lesions. In one of the photos, we can see Dr. Arráez alongside Dr. Imad Kanaan, current President of the Academy, and Dr. Luca Regli, event organizer and Head of the Neurosurgery Department at the University Hospital of Zurich, where Professor Yasargil developed his professional career.

Professor Yasargil, born in 1925, was a Turkish neurosurgeon who left a lasting legacy in the medical community. His dedication and surgical skills inspired generations of neurosurgeons, and his contribution to neurosurgery is remembered and celebrated worldwide. The participation of Dr. Arráez and other prominent neurosurgeons in the event demonstrates the importance of collaboration and the exchange of ideas in medicine.
